VTG METLOX Pottery Oval Serving Platter 13 1/2" Red Rooster / Poppytrail
Background:
The name METLOX is a combination of "metal" and "oxide," a
reference
to the glaze pigments.  METLOX manufactured dinnerware in Manhattan
Beach,
California from 1931 through its closure in 1989. The first line of pottery,
Poppytrail, quickly became well known for its brightly colored glazes, having
its origin in locally mined metallic oxides.  The Red Rooster line came later
but vendors assign the name Poppytrail Red Rooster to items manufactured in
the late 50s, 60s and 70s.

My Red Rooster Poppytrail oval serving platter by METLOX bears an embossed
(or raised transfer) rooster on the front.  Rooster colors are bright red,
green,
yellow and black on an off-white or light tan background.  The platter has a
1-1/2" raised band with a 3/8" brown rim that fades into the background color.
Glaze and finish are high-gloss ceramic.  METLOX made Popptrail from 1955
to 1979 in California U.S.A.  Poppytrail remains popular today with collectors.
METLOX circular mark on the bottom of the platter reads as below:
